Robert DiCarlo (R-Stony Brook), the GOP candidate for Brookhaven Town Supervisor, won the town Conservative Party endorsement this week, Conservative Party chairman Richard Johannesen announced this week.
Mr. Johannesen explained that the party decided to cross-endorse Mr. DiCarlo after screening all town supervisor candidates. They reviewed the policies and ideas of each candidate, and then unanimously voted to support Mr. DiCarlo. Although he is a member of another party, the Conservative Party feels that he would do the best job as the new supervisor of Brookhaven Town.
"He is the person who possesses the qualifications to solve the problems in Brookhaven," said Mr. Johannesen. "He will eliminate the burdensome tax and work tirelessly to implement good government policies."
Mr. DiCarlo is happy to have the support of the Conservative Party, according to his spokesperson, Frank Tassone. "He's honored and very pleased," said Mr. Tassone. "He is working hard for the taxpayers of Brookhaven. They are united behind DiCarlo."
The Conservative Party is dissatisfied with first-term incumbent Brian Foley (D-Blue Point), Mr. Johannesen said.
Mr. Johannesen said he supported Foley two years ago, but he is now disappointed with him because he hasn't followed through on his promises. "Unfortunately, Foley's crowning achievement as supervisor has been encumbering residents with the largest tax increase in the history of this town, while neglecting his previous promises about ethics reform," he said.
"Foley failed in his first two years and we need to bring in someone who will clean up the government. If we don't make a change we are going to have a town that is unaffordable."
The Conservatives are also endorsing Jane Bonner, a member of their own party who is running for Brookhaven Town Board on the Republican ticket. "Bonner is our star," said Mr. Johannesen. "We are excited to have her running on the Conservative/Republican line. She understands our problems in real time."
The Conservative Party feels that, if elected, these two candidates will be very valuable to Brookhaven Town.
