DEAN MURRAY: SENATOR MONSERRATE MUST GO
Local businessman and Assembly Candidate says Queens state Senator
convicted of assault should be expelled this week
January 18, 2010
MEDFORD, NY -- Local businessman and 3rd Assembly District candidate Dean Murray (R,C-East Patchogue) today called for the immediate expulsion from the state Senate of Queens Democrat Hiram Monserrate, who was convicted in October of assault.
In December 2008, Monserrate dragged his girlfriend down the hallway of his apartment building leaving a gash on her face according to court records and a Senate report. Last week, a Senate panel recommended Monserrate be expelled or censured.
“Hiram Monserrate has got to go. I’ve helped police catch fugitives who did less than this guy,” said Murray, who publishes the Long Island Fugitive Finder and has helped police apprehend over 230 dangerous criminals. “It’d be an insult to women and crime victims everywhere if Hiram Monserrate spent another day on the taxpayer’s dime as a senator. The Senate should vote to send him packing without delay.”
“As a state Senator, Monserrate should have been a role model for his community and not a model of bad behavior. We’ve seen one politician after another from both parties abuse the public’s trust and break the law. It’s no wonder our taxes are so high because too many politicians have been taking care of themselves and not working for the people,” said Murray.
“As an Assemblyman, I will fight for the toughest ethics laws in the country and I will be just as hard on Republicans as Democrats when it comes to ensuring lawmakers honor the public’s trust. I’ll fight to clean up the corruption, waste and fraud that is killing jobs, costing taxpayers money and making it harder to afford to live in Long Island,” concluded Murray.
The 3rd Assembly District includes Bellport, Blue Point, Brookhaven Hamlet, Coram, Farmingville, Gordon Heights, Holtsville, Medford, Middle Island, Patchogue, and parts of, Mastic, Selden, Shirley and Yaphank.
