January 17, 2010

MASTIC BEACH, NY – Vowing to continue the work started by his friend Councilman Keith Romaine, Sixth Council District resident Dan Panico today announced his candidacy to fill the vacancy on the Brookhaven Town Board.

"The people of the Sixth Town Council District need a tireless advocate with the experience and education necessary to lead during these difficult times. This district is on the rise and deserves a strong leader to continue the good work started by my friend Keith Romaine," said Panico, who was joined at his announcement by a number of community leaders and elected officials. “It is my pledge that I will continue this good work to increase the quality of life while reigning in spending, eliminating the waste in Town government, and reducing the burden of property taxes and fees upon our hardworking families."

A lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of William Floyd High School, Panico possess the experience in government and the community that is needed to represent the interests of the people of the Sixth Town District.

Panico, an attorney, has been an ardent protector of the district and its quality of life as a member of the Brookhaven Town Planning Board. He is committed to controlling taxes and fees, cutting wasteful spending while providing the Town resources needed to deliver services to the hardworking families of our community.

At the announcement, Panico received support from a host of local elected officials and community leaders, including the endorsement Legislator Ed Romaine, the father of the late councilman who was represented the district from 2008 until his sudden and tragic passing in November.

"Dan Panico has the experience, the energy and the commitment to make an excellent town councilman. I am sure my son would be proud that his best friend is running to fill his vacancy," said Suffolk County Legislator Ed Romaine.

“What better candidate to fulfill Keith Romaine’s legacy than his best friend, Dan Panico? Dan is a man of boundless energy, with the same passion to serve his community, and make it a better place, that I saw in Keith,” said Councilman Timothy Mazzei.

“For the past two years, the Sixth Town Council District was blessed to have a representative who worked hard every day to make it a better place to live, improving the quality of life for families there, and being an ever vigilant watchdog in Town Hall for our taxpayers. Dan Panico is the perfect person to continue that commitment to work with the residents and civic leaders of the community for a better Brookhaven,” said Second District Councilwoman Jane Bonner

“Dan Panico has a proven track record of community service and governmental experience to serve the people of the Sixth Town Council District. Dan will be a fine addition to the Town Board,” said Brookhaven Receiver of Taxes Lou Marcoccia.

"As a lifelong resident of the tri hamlet community who was born and raised in Mastic Beach I will be proud to have Dan Panico represent me and all of the residents of the Sixth Council District. Dan Panico will be a strong voice for the community

"I am honored and humbled to have been selected as the candidate for Brookhaven Town Council. I chose to have this announcement in Mastic Beach where I was born and grew up, graduating from William Floyd High School," Panico said. "This wonderful location also marks the rebirth of a downtown; the rebirth of a community; and the rebirth of our local economy. On March 9th, I ask you to vote for Dan Panico for Brookhaven Town Council."
"I think Dan Panico, one of our home grown, running, going door to door with Keith, knowing all of Keith’s projects and aware of our concerns and challenges, makes him a tremendous asset for our community,” said Mastic Beach resident Victor Zeleny.
"I am glad to see the process moving forward so that the Sixth Council District will once again have a voice. We need that voice to speak loudly and forcefully about issues that plagued our community,” said Beth Wahl, president of the William Floyd Community Summit.
