MESSAGE FROM CHAIRMAN JESSE GARCIA
A Decade of Remembrance…
Blanket Brookhaven in Our
American Flag
September 11, 2011
September 11, 2001 - September 11, 2011
Dear Members, Friends of the BTRC & Residents of Brookhaven,
The images of that beautiful Tuesday morning a decade ago remain with us to this day. At 8:46 AM and 9:03 AM flight 11 and flight 175 purposefully crashed into the World Trade Center Towers and Flight 77 struck the Pentagon at 9:38 AM in a deliberate act of terrorism; an act of war upon our way of life, freedoms and liberty.
This will always be a day of remembrance for the brutal attack upon our nation and a day we shall never forget; a day when we lost more than 3000 of our fellow countrymen; a day heroes from all walks of life saved countless more lives.
The courage and heroism of average Americans – from the brave fighters, police officers, port authority personnel and first responders on the streets of Manhattan and outside the Pentagon to the passengers of Flight 93 who overpowered their hijackers and sacrificed themselves to prevent what is widely believed to be a fourth terrorist attack targeting either the Capitol or White House – was witnessed throughout the globe.
In the days, weeks, months and decade following the terrorist attacks upon the World Trade Center and Pentagon, our patriotism and resolve helped us through some of the most harrowing moments we have endured as a nation and society. It shouldn't take another terrorist attack or national tragedy to galvanize us in solidarity.
In honor of those lost and those heroes, I urge every Member and Friend of the Brookhaven Town Republican Committee - and every citizen of our great Town - to make it your duty to display an American flag outside every home, apartment, office, and store in Brookhaven Town and throughout the United States on Sunday, September 11th
It’s a cause, or small gesture that the Brookhaven Town Republican Committee began several years ago we refer to as Blanket Brookhaven in Our American Flag on Sept 11th.
Our American Flag is the fabric of our Nation and together we can prevail over terrorism of all kinds. It binds us; unites us; and inspires us all. I hope you will join us in Blanket Brookhaven in Our American Flag on Sept 11th on Sunday – which marks the Tenth Anniversary of one of our nation’s worst tragedies.
Fly your American Flag for a full week in honor of the victims, their families; as we as the great heros of that day and the Members of our Armed Forces. As we honor those who have fallen, I hope you will observe a moment of silent remembrance and quiet prayer Sunday morning at 8:46 AM, 9:03 AM, 9:38 and 10:10 AM – a span of an hour and 24 minutes that changed our nation, but also brought us acts of courage and heroism.
Please also share a prayer for our brave soldiers of the greatest fighting force our world has ever known and who place their very lives between America and the terrorists who do us evil.
The words of President George W. Bush are as true today as they were when he spoke them from the Oval Office the evening of September 11th: “Terrorist attacks can shake he foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America.”
God bless you and God Bless the United States of America.
